Busy Weekend

Saturday: got out for a long skate ski yesterday, about 22km. The distance wasn't all that great, it was the conditions - very slow snow. First half of the ski from P5 all the way up to the Fortune/Champlain intersection wasn't that bad. It was the south side of the park, mostly in shadows for much of the day, where it really slowed down. Had to fight for every inch of glide and was redlining the heart-rate monitor probably for 85% of the ski. Was pretty tuckered out at the end of the ski. 1 hr 50 min. total time.

Today: After getting Jackie-boy out for a good walk this morning, headed over to Mark's for a repeat last weeks indoor spin session. The focus was on some speed work and pedaling technique (ie. one legged pedaling). I had a hard time getting the heart rate up today and fought to keep it in the range I wanted. Averaged at 149 bpm over the 2.5hr session (Mark went on to do 3hrs of work after I wimped out). In my experience, the day after a hard workout my heart rate is inconsistent. Today would have been better to monitor my workout based on perceived work, rather than heart rate - cause I really felt like I was working.

The humidity in the room when we started the ride was at about 50%, when we finished it was up to 86%. Just gross.

After the spin we headed down to the Rideau Canal, the world's longest skating rink (no matter what Winnipeg says!) at 7.8km long, for a skate and hooked up with Stef & Hannah. Only about 4.5 km was open as the NCC work on the rest for the upcoming Winterlude.

The ice conditions were really good considering it was the first
weekend for the canal to be open.
